UKRAINE TO DATE: 18 TRUCKS, 332 PALLETS OF FOOD AND AID, 400 MEDICAL BEDS, 27 WATER TANKS, 500 BABY BOX CRIBS NEWS UPDATE 19/05/2022 The Big Rig artic now loaded with urgent aid, including medical supplies, being sent in partnership with Warrington-based Care UK Charity. Brian and Shaun to leave shortly on the journey to Romania to offload to our partner Asociata Integra for delivery to Ukraine. We await arrival of a 'backload' large truck for another consignment to be sent out from Basildon to Ukraine via Romania. Additionally a collaboration between Whitebread, Maritime Transport and ourselves have arranged for four trucks which are on route to Romania and will deliver to our partner NGO, Integra. Two will deliver to Oradea for families displaced from Ukraine and the other will deliver to Suceava for onward transportation into Ukraine. Bedding, 60,000 plus duvets and pillows, have been supplied by Whitbread and their subsidiary Premier Inn. This is being transported by Whitbread's transport partner, Maritime. Two artics are being prepared to deliver to our Romanian partner Integra, to Succeava. Simultaneously a third artic load of much needed sanitary equipment, (portable toilets and washing facilities and showers), along with pallet quantities of high nutrition drinks, the latter for a hospital in Mikalalev, all going direct from here to Odessa. Logistics are not simple and all working hard to achieve as quickly as possible. Dates to be confirmed shortly. As important, collections still continue to be consolidated from our drop off points and other donors to our warehouse. This work so crucial for the weeks and months ahead. This helps enormously in making more people aware of the desperate situation in Ukraine and what aid to collect. *** NEWS UPDATE 23/04/2022 Our supporters always ensure the right aid is available for dispatch after consultation with our 'Needs List'. We, along with many other charities, have now noticed this has slowed and we are identifying fundraising initiatives so we can continue the help that will be needed in the weeks and months ahead. For further information on the following and other fundraising events please visit 'ways to give' and the 'fundraise' pages. *** NEWS UPDATE 16/04/2022 Roger, although away on a holiday in Romania, has taken a detour to see Bucharest station and how refugees are met on arriving from Ukraine. *** NEWS UPDATE 09/04/2022 The food aid is now well into its journey to Kharkiv in Ukraine, arrival only hours away. The HaAD crew helped unload other vehicles including an artic of food from Germany and continued to sort the HaAD aid including filling the donated torches with batteries for immediate use. Within four hours the food aid, only just delivered, was loaded by the team on the next empty truck which again is headed for Kharkiv. A HaAD detour is now planned to Lublin, Poland with truck loaded with badly needed hospital supplies for onward transfer to Ukraine. The return journey home follows. *** NEWS UPDATE 08/04/2022 The artic along with the two 7.5 ton trucks, Frantic and Robin Hood, have now arrived safely at the Slovakia/Ukraine border. The artic was unloaded immediately and all food was transferred to another vehicle that was leaving that evening for Ukraine where food is a priority. Today will be unloading the two 7.5 ton trucks and also another artic arriving today. Pleased also to confirm that the drinking water tanks and trailers have been delivered into Ukraine already. The importance of how the boxes are packed was clearly in evidence with the need to act quickly because of the immediacy of getting this aid to those in desperate need. This is an opportunity to thank all our donors, volunteers and those involved; all the effort is seriously rewarded. A snap shot below at the border warehouse. *** NEWS UPDATE 05/04/2022 More large water tanks are being transported out this week via LNER on a container train which will also be heading to Poland at the request of the Polish Government. We have two containers on the train and the load is being paid for by LNER. We are currently now in preparation for the next aid deliveries. Following feedback from those on the ground, and our visits to Poland and elsewhere, we are assessing needs and will be responding with aid collections and donor deliveries over the next two weeks. *** NEWS UPDATE 04/04/2022 On the 2nd April the next convoy left with aid for Slovakia with the final destination at Uzhhorod, a city just over the Slovakian border in western Ukraine. This convoy has been co-sponsored by TT2 (Tyne Tunnels) and Andy Scoble from United Help Ukraine via the Aid Box Community based in Bristol. Eurotunnel offered free passage to all humanitarian aid vehicles. There are three trucks, a 40 tonne artic and two smaller 7.5 tonne trucks. The aid will be taken directly from us on the border into Ukraine and immediately distributed into areas most affected by the war to those in need. The final list of aid being delivered consists of hygiene and sanitary items (including nappies, incontinence pads, toothpaste, shower gel, dental products, hand wash and dry shower), food - dry and tinned, solar chargers, sleeping bags, disinfection machines (Foggers used for spraying underground bunkers where people are seeking refuge in Ukraine to avoid disease etc.) and disinfectant, a total of 23 tonnes of aid. Charles Storer appealed for volunteers and was very pleased that for the past week several members and friends of Ingatestone Rotary stepped up to help. With the rota managed by Noelle, Charles has had the valued assistance of helpers who unloaded, sorted and loaded including Noelle, Nigel, Alan, Sally, Adam, Richard and daughter Louise, Linda Ritchie, John M., Wendy, Senga & Neil. Also helping were Charles's wife, Bev plus Lucy and Mary and some other volunteers. We wish our convoyers, Brian and Nina in the artic big rig, Steve and Nick in Frantic and Chas and Bev in Robin Hood a safe journey. *** NEWS UPDATE 01/04/2022 Today loading two artics, back-loaded heading to our partner's warehouse destination inside Ukraine via Poland. A total of 16 x 2500 litre drinking water tanks plus 11 x 1000 litre drinking water tanks and 11 towable trailers. All courtesy of Wessex Water. A thank you for the specialist items so badly needed and requested by our partner Robbie who is based in Ukraine and Slovakia. *** NEWS UPDATE 29/03/2022 Preparation in full swing to load the artic and two 7.5 trucks which are to leave for Slovakia 1st April and will be away for two weeks. Billericay pick up last Friday; Graham and Bev (Storer) made the long journey, all of 30 minutes!, from collecting Frantic over to Billericay to pick up aid collected by Hope for Ukraine from their container. Pallets of pasta, mixed food, handwash, toiletries, toothpaste, dry shampoo, nappies, sleeping bags, disinfectant for fogging machines and 3 x 1000l water tanks will be loaded. We have access to companies currently who can offer bulk and so some items here are not on the Needs List. A great enthusiastic team, who have been working flat out and who have collected aid, some already transported over to Ukraine and into the hospital. The money is destined for two charities and also HaAD. The Bryanston team have been working to determine the most appropriate supplies for the people of Ukraine. Our partnership enabled them to act as a local hub for collections from the Blandford Cares charity. This ensures that every HaAD penny raised for Ukraine over the Charities Weekend is used to its full effect and put towards critical humanitarian supplies. Their twelve pallets of aid expected to arrive at the Ukrainian border in the first days of April. *** NEWS UPDATE: 21/03/22 HAAD are facilitating the delivery of seven pallets of wound dressings urgently requested by the State of Emergency Department of Ukraine. We had an offer, liaised with donor, shipping company and the Ukraine Medical Association. They are on there way and will be in Lviv on Thursday this week. At the start of April two 7.5 ton trucks and an artic with volunteers will be setting off to deliver essential items of aid to Slovakia which in turn will reach Ukraine. Co-ordinated pick-up and collections from Drop Off Points and others around the UK will continue in earnest. *** There is a large amount going on in the background to match offers to requirements, however the highlight is clearly the first truck delivering the baby boxes and nappies to our new partner in Romania. In addition to this: HAAD is helping to transport 400 medical beds into Ukraine: One artic transported medical 186 medical beds to Poland earlier this week and these are being transported immediately into Lviv, Ukraine, by the request of the State Emergency Services of Ukraine. Hope and Aid Direct is facilitating a further 3 artic loads of the same beds to Poland via the Ukraine Medical Association (GB). One artic load has been collected today. HAAD is covering the cost of one of the three artics. We are also supporting the cost of a warehouse in western Ukraine, of our local partners (Slovakia) that are providing essential supplies directly to internally displaced in Ukraine. We are planning to send further trucks out at the end of this month which will be filled with items, that HAAD has acquired from corporates and that our volunteers are collecting around the UK, from our essential needs list. Meanwhile in the UK we have acquired the use of a warehouse in Essex for corporate / pre packed deliveries, where we are sorting and loading. 12/03/2022 Our first aid delivery to the Ukranian-Romainian border.
