Our Volunteers and their Fundraising Events

BEN NEVIS CLIMB

10th April 2022

Carl Dutton and his colleague Brian Jacks, from the Arriva bus company in Runcorn, have completed their Ben Nevis climb and in very challenging conditions. With the sponsorship money raised they spent on food in Asda which was supported by the Asda team and muscle power help from some tiny family folk!

Arriva funded the van hire and fuel for Carl and another bus driver, Karen Owen, to drive to the Congleton drop off point where volunteers packed this vast quantity of food into boxes.  Additional aid from Congleton was also loaded - medical supplies, baby items, blankets, sleeping bags, toiletries and so much more.  Carl and Karen drove to Basildon where it was palletised and ready to load onto the next truck going to Ukraine.

AND THE NEXT CLIMB?

We are pleased that there are many fabulous local activities raising funds for Hope and Aid Direct. Here are a few in North Wales and the north west.  Collecting towards transportation costs and to enable the purchase of life-saving aid.

The staff and owners at Parc Farm Caravan Park, Mold, in addition to collecting enormous amount of aid for the Congleton drop- off point, also raffled some beautiful handmade blankets raising £241.00.

Carl Dutton and his colleague Brian are climbing Ben Nevis for sponsorship from The Runcorn Arriva Bus Depot on 10th April.

Colin Berry, performed a sponsored six hour guitarathon in the village pub in Lkanarmon-yn-lal last Saturday, 9th April.  This event raised £1,060.  A big thank you Colin.

Phil Downey, who walked three hours on crutches, following one month after his second hip operation.  He raised in excess of  £3,000.

***

Elinor Weedon, who arranged an online fashion auction.  She raised close to £2,000.

The Bryanston School in Blandford.  The students fundraised at their charity weekend featuring sponsored personal challenges, a concert by bands and musicians, a lunch for friends and family, a fashion show, a dog show and a special dinner for pupils.  This raised more than £55,000 for Dorset Wellbeing organisation Willdoes and international education charity United World Schools along with a special humanitarian mission for Ukraine with Hope and Aid Direct.

A Volunteer: Will make a real difference to someone's life, maybe even save it. Will find out how far they can push themselves to help others, and be rewarded with immeasurable real life experiences. Will forever be changed simply because they refused to sit by and do nothing while people were suffering. Will learn to work in a team, be resilient and achieve things they never thought possible. Could be you? Get in touch now, you are desperately needed!
