Most charities have volunteers, many have volunteers who work alongside paid staff and some alongside layers of well paid management.

I volunteer for Hope and Aid Direct, a humanitarian aid charity where everyone is a volunteer. All of the drivers, trustees, logistical staff and management are volunteers. This somewhat unique business model means that all of the money that we raise as a charity can be used to procure, transport and deliver humanitarian aid. No money is spent on vehicles, salaries or premises allowing for maximum impact and ensuring there is no wastage.

The funds I raise through the marathon will enable the charity to purchase humanitarian aid for the many refugees currently in Europe, along with many others who will soon become refugees in the wake of the ongoing Afghanistan conflict, combined with a certain amount of aid that will be needed by the people of Greece after the devastating fires they are currently undergoing.

This aid will be loaded onto trucks and driven direct to Greek mainland and islands all by volunteers like myself where our partner organisations will distribute the aid into the many refugee camps and to the local population as required.
