  • Afghanistan Emergency Appeal

Afghanistan Emergency Appeal

We have not forgotten the people of Afghanistan, however our current focus is dealing with the emergency situation in Ukraine.  As a charity that is operated by volunteers we have finite resources.  We are considering how we deal with this and other crises and we will update this page as soon as we can and where appropritate.

In August we set up an appeal for the people of Afghanistan.  As usual we asked and you responded, with £2000 of donations, thank you.  How this money was spent is detailed below.

Given the challenges associated with ensuring that any money raised gets directly to the people, in line with the ethos of Hope and Aid Direct, we partnered with a local organisation for this ad-hoc project,, who also has UK offices, Aryana Aid, who work in a very similar way to ourselves.  The joint project involved the distribution of food packs to the poor and needy refugee families in Afghanistan, food packs being the most vital need at the moment in the country given the bad economic situation and the difficult living conditions in this uncertain time in Afghanistan.

You will see that the distribution was a very well planned and orderly affair, which is critical to ensure that all families receive the same aid ad that no further inequalities are added to an already strained system.  The photos below show part of the distribution and remind me, and I am sure will remind many of you, of the aid distributions that we were involved in, in Kosovo.

A Volunteer: Will make a real difference to someone's life, maybe even save it. Will find out how far they can push themselves to help others, and be rewarded with immeasurable real life experiences. Will forever be changed simply because they refused to sit by and do nothing while people were suffering. Will learn to work in a team, be resilient and achieve things they never thought possible. Could be you? Get in touch now, you are desperately needed!
