Friday 23 July Message From Bev Just about to eat after a long hot day! Left hotel at 8 am and we spent the day in the warehouse handling 1940 pairs of shoes from our supporters, sorting and pairing them up. Unloaded both 7.5 trucks and both artics into the warehouse. We were fed and watered by Jan and her kitchen. Sue has kept us amused with her tail! Pallet man was fab and it was a great team effort. We went to Konik camp 1 and saw the conditions, we were made very welcome by the families, hence our late return. A great day and fantastic team in very hot conditions, hotter than we thought.
Friday 23 July Message From Janet Up at 6am, breakfast at 7am off to warehouse 8am. Unloading trucks. Went to fetch pallettes. Val scraped her shin on one quite badly, lots of blood . Washed cleaned and covered wound. PM temperature 36 , I felt sorry for the guys outside using a forklift to unload and reload the HGVs. Indoors we sorted over a thousand pairs of shoes into age appropriate boxes, whilst swallows swooped over our heads persuading reluctant offspring to leave their nest. Eight of us sorted hundreds of pairs of lovely Boden girl\s pumps which had been delivered to us all mixed up and packed singly, not paired Stalls along the road sell huge water melons and we have survived today on bread, cheese and water melon and lots and lots of water. Jan C. gave us a 2ltr bottle each in the morning and told us we must drink it all! 6.30pm we set of to visit the Roma camp where we were mobbed by cheeky children. Camp consists of lanes of shanties, built of any scrap material available. Very rough, very dirty. Very primitive 8pm minibus to hotel. shower and bed for Val and I. Tomorrow there is yet another pallette load of shoes to sort and the HGVs to load. Chas went out and bought a lorry load of flour today and he is getting more tomorrow.
Thursday 22 July Message from Janet (Flying team) The flying team were up at 4am to head to the airport. We took off from Luton at 7am and landed in Dubrovnik at about 11am (that is GB time plus 1hr). We were picked up by a minibus to transport us from Croatia into Montenagro. We had a lovely lunch in a restaurant then travelled via Kotor Fjord and Budva and arrived in Podgorica approx 4.30pm We are now all here, 17 of us altogether. We aim to be up very early tomorrow, as temperatures may reach 40 and we shall be unloading the lorries.
Thursday 22 July Message from Bev (Robin Hood) We are all fine and we cleared Montenegro customs in record time. We dropped into have a look at the warehouse which is great and then got to hotel at about 6 pm. Once there we met up with the airbourne team, Bob Charmbury and Roger. We are now in town having a bite to eat and some relaxation before the work starts tomorrow at 7 am.
Wednesday 21 July from John Desty 10am Still am amazed at the wonderful scenery driving through Croatia. We are getting closer to the Adriatic sea and hope to have a swim later. All on the convoy are well.
Wed 21 July 22.45pm from Bev We stopped for the night at Cilipi just south of Dubrovnik. Seadog and Robin Hood had a nice break this afternoon and swam whilst the artics went on ahead to assure a good overnight stop. All now in an apartment. We plan to leave early in the morning to get to the Montenegro border then proceed to meet up with the seven flying team members who will set off tomorrow from London in the morning.
Tuesday 20 July Message from Paul, Late Entry We have had a successful day today making good progress. We left the Austrian services at 07.45 and stopped in a scenic lay-by for a Robin Hood brunch fry up. Bev had a manic moment with a very large sharp knife and try to amputate my right hand! We arrived at the Slovenian / Croatian border at 1415 and had cleared customs and were on the road to Zagreb by 1600. We are now parked up halfway through Croatia approximately 220 km from Split, where Chas bought a round of drinks. Hoping to be around Dubrovnik early afternoon tomorrow to have a stroll on the beach, a swim and a relaxing meal before the real work starts.
Tuesday 20 July Message from Bev, Robin Hood As you can see Paul's hand is OK by the long text he has just sent! Now sat in OMV garage and being entertained by Den's tales. Seadog have proved to be fab journey leaders.
Tuesday 20 July Message from John, Seadog Enjoyed the great scenery and long tunnels through the Alps. Impressed with getting through Croatian border in record time. Weather overcast, humid and hot.
Monday 19 July Message from Bev W'ere all well and parked up for night at 8pm and having dinner in Austria. Got on the road this morning at 8am. Mr Flibble had a meeting with the German police earlier today but all is ok! We have been enjoying goodies all day from samworth brothers, which have kept us going plus the traditional greasy spoon this lunch time! Good day and good weather! Sunday 18 July. The mini convoy met up at Maidstone this morning. Two 40 tonners, Mr Flibble and Late Entry, and two 7.5 tonne trucks, Robin Hood and Seadog had support from Maidstone Amateur Radio to fit and check radios before heading off to Dover. They had a smooth crossing to Calais then started the drive through France, Belgium and have stopped just north of Cologne (Köln). Normally on the first night, the convoy aims to get as close to Aachen as possible, but this time they had made very good progress and got further. Bev reported that they had a really good run through and everyone is in fine fettle enjoying their evening meal!
