A small team will find it a lot easier to raise the funds needed to take part in
an aid convoy. Each truck that goes needs a crew of two or three drivers, and
often these drivers have worked together to raise the funds to take part. Often
the teams will either work for the same company, or drink in the same pub.
Each truck cots up to £4,000 to get to Kosovo and back again and this is best
raised by sponsorship and/or active fundraising.

Most truck crews are made up of three drivers
Sponsorship
If a company wants to support your effort then support them in anyway you can.
Allow them to put their logo on your truck and join them in any public relations
work they want you to take part in. If it’s a success they may even offer more
funds or they will be keen to support your next trip as well.
At Hope and Aid Direct we believe that it is important for our sponsors to get as
much as they can out of their sponsorship as this does often lead to future
support.
Fund raising
We all know there are millions of ways to raise funds (sponsored
walks/runs/dances/abseils/ parachute jumps etc). But the more people that you
get doing these events the better. A lot of small teams swell their ranks with
volunteer fundraisers who are willing to raise aid for your truck, but for one
reason or another cannot join you on the convoy.
There are a number of alternative ways that you can raise funds. For instance, I
am in the middle of organizing a special showing of The Rocky Horror Picture
Show and a ladies night with a fashion show by Ann Summers.
Get your company involved
If your group all work for the same company you will often find your employers
are keen to get involved. It means more PR for them and most will see the
benefit of someone organising fun events within the company to improve morale.
Again, help them in any PR work that they might want you to do. The more they
are in the local paper, the more you and the Charity are also in the local
paper.
