During the 2007 Winter Aid Convoy, our team of the day (Brother Bear) located a family that needs urgent, special, help. The father had been killed in the 1999 war.

There were of course many others almost as bad, but this was one of the worst cases that we saw. An officer of the French KFOR has been asked if he could assess their most urgent needs and report back to Hope and Aid Direct.

We will call them the Skenderaj family who live in the village of Aqareva in the Skenderaj district. They had only one small bag of flour and minimal possessions as you can see. They have absolutely nothing apart from what is shown in these pictures. Winter is almost upon them and with no window, this end of the house will soon be uninhabitable.

There is a very little chance of employment in Kosovo, every year about 20,000 young men are available for work but the chances are very low for getting employment, less than 25% find a job.
Very few of the unemployed get social assistance, which is only 40-75 Euro maximum a month, their families have to survive on that.

If they have access to some land they might be able to get a pig, cow or a few chickens but this can be an expensive investment when you don't have enough money for food now.
