Reports this evening from Bill, Dave, Paul and Graham are that the convoy is still in three sections. NIBSY and FLIBBLE have now met up with HELLO KITTY and are overnighting at Assotthalom. Bill reports all are well and that they will leave tomorrow morning to cross into Serbia.
Paul has txt to say truck running OK and that he is in Austria about 50km past Hegyeshalom. He expects to make Assotthalom tomorrow evening where he will await the arrival of the 7.5 tonne contingent on Sunday/Monday.
Graham, by email says: We arrived at the Jabekke services (near Brugge) in pouring rain. No problems apart from a couple of small problems with windscreen wipers and Chas's usual argument with the currency exchange on the ferry. Early night tonight to get a full day tomorrow.

18 tired drivers having a beer in the petrol station!

Friday OCT 09: 10.00 GMT
Paul Barber has txt to say that LATE ENTRY is back on the road a mere 39 hours after the blow-out on Wednesday. Currently heading for the Austrian border. Go Paul!

Thursday Oct 08; 20.00 GMT
It seems that the Heavies are now split into three groups. HELLO KITTY with William and Helen have made it to our usual stop at Hegyshalom in northern Hungary. NIBSY and MR FLIBBLE are in hot pursuit having been delayed with LATE ENTRY. They all had a very uncomfortable night parked in road works on the side of the motorway. When they finally got the wheel off they discovered that the adjacent air suspension unit had also been damaged in the blow out.
LATE ENTRY, with Paul Barber as a lone driver, has been left at the DAF dealers in Wurzburg for most of today awaiting the spare part which is now due to arrive tomorrow morning. Despite many phone calls between us and Sita, and by them with one of their German speakers to Germany; they managed to source a replacement unit by early afternoon in Salzburg 150 miles away. Paul called this evening and was his usual stoic self. If all goes well tomorrow he hopes to be on the road by 10.00, at Heygeshalom by nightfall and then meet the others at Assthotallem near the Hungary Serbian border on Saturday evening. He was about to find a local restaurant and have a couple of beers to celebrate his wedding anniversary by himself - above and beyond……..?

Thursday Oct 8, 2009 from Charles Storer

Phone call from Norman and Bill at 7pm - Rear Inner tyre on 'Late Entry' has shredded - have managed to drive very slowly to junction 68 on the A3 (SW of Wurzburg) and have stopped on the Junction inside road work cones (out of the traffic lane) - causing some traffic, but it is still moving around them.
I called Bruce at Sita who do a fantastic job looking after our trucks, and they have an 'account' with Bridgestone through a tyre assist company called Truck Point………….after several phone calls, Bill and the others received a call with an ETA to assist of 24 00. hours (11pm UK)
Latest at 1am European time is that the guys who turned up to help do not have a socket of the correct size for the wheel nuts, and will return tomorrow morning to try again…………. Sita have once again pulled out all the stops, but the technical complexities have temporarily thrown a 'spanner in the works'!
The two Alan's (Beckwith, and Eldred) have collected their trucks today with no hitches

Wednesday Oct 7, 2009
Trucks are being loaded all around the country in preparation for the 7.5 tonne truck contingent which leaves this Friday. The Southampton crews John, Charlie and Doreen loaded their two trucks SEA DOGS and GONZALES in a record two hours this morning thanks to a gang of willing helpers which included Lesley, Diane, Pinar, Geoff, Nigel and Malcolm. The weather held off until we had finished, which was also a bonus. Both crews now fully loaded and are eager to be away.

Tuesday Oct 6, 2009 at 19.00 from William and Helen in HELLO KITTY
Were pulled today by Customs Patrol Car near Frankfurt - they examined load, then took truck to a compound near the airport where the truck was driven through an X Ray bay. Then we were handed off to the Traffic Police who did a detailed TACHO CHECK including asking for the weekly written record, which fortunately William keeps. The Hope and Aid Documentation was crucial - the process was professional and courteous but wasted 1 hour!

Tuesday Oct 6, 2009 at 15:48 from Bill in NIBSY

The HGV's are on there way. Hello Kitty departed yesterday morning (Monday) - Dover to Calais. They were delayed 2 or 3 hours at Dover waiting for customs clearance but last night were just approaching the German border at Aachen. They intend to make a gentle run to our rendezvous at Assthotallem in Hungary near to the Hungarian / Serbian border.
Late Entry left this morning (Tuesday) on the 1000 sailing from Dagenham. Paul will then spend the night in Vlissingen docks awaiting the arrival of Nibsy & Flibble who sail on the 2200 sailing from Dagenham tonight (Tuesday). As there is no food service on this sailing until 0700 tomorrow morning Bill, Norman and Dave are meeting up prior to the sailing for a meal.

Tuesday 6th October 2009.  We're underway!
I'd hoped to send this email at the weekend, before the first truck departed, but alas…………….too much to do and parents Diamond Wedding anniversary.
William and Helen (radio name Hello Kitty) departed today in the first of the HGV 40 tonners, via Dover P & O - they have both come back from living and working in China to drive the truck that they are fully financing, so we are massively grateful and wish them a safe journey - William is single-man driving. They had a two hour wait at Dover while Customs had to get clearance from Manchester…….why, we don't yet know, but I'm on the case.
The other two artics and Bill's 18 tonner are away tomorrow via Ford at Dagenham - LEZ dealt with - hopefully a smooth departure with Paul on the morning sailing, and the other two on the evening sailing - Roddy is flying to meet them in Vlissingen. Safe trip all! See you in Kosovo
Preparations during the past few weeks have been as challenging as ever (no such thing as a problem!) but magnified with the extra effort of filling the third artic - a really great team effort with logistical support from Paul, our new Logistics
'Director'!!! - among other things, the postal strike threatened our receipt of Green Cards and insurance cover notes, but we managed to overcome that problem. The UK Customs changed their computerised export processing system again, and threw in a few challenges that I think we've overcome, but we won't actually know for sure until the HGV's exit Hungary……fingers firmly crossed.
Graham Crame very unfortunately can't now come with us, because of a medical problem. He's fine and back at home after a few days in hospital last week, and pretty gutted that he had no choice but to drop out at the last minute………..but hopefully we'll get him back again next Easter. Graham, is instead going to be our UK back up man, although
hopefully we won't need to call him!!
Some of you will remember John (Wobbly) Williams who has stepped into the breach and will be taking Grahams place to look after and give his undivided attention instead to co-driver Tricia!
The rest of the convoy of 9 x 7.5 ton trucks are departing on Friday - As Alan said in a previous email, we'd like everyone at the M20 Services Junction 8, no later than 11am please, but if you can get there for 10 am all the better. Ian (Maidstone Radio) and the radio guys will be there to meet you, and will immediately set about your truck to install and check radio equipment. Please if you are going to be late, will you ring Alan or me to advise us?
You'll have seen the emails about 2 hour parking restriction at the Services - I've been there today and the Manager has told me that if we need a little bit more than 2 hours that's not a problem - the cameras and the charges have always been there, so presumably we've not had to stay longer than 2 hours before or we would have heard - however, please will you try not to arrive much before 10am because I've promised that we will still try to stay within the two hour limit - our backstop may be to move completed trucks down to Dover, but going together gives us a chance to practise convoy routines and radios. Alan (ably assisted by Vanessa) will be the journey leader to get us to Kosovo safely and on time, but more of that, and other responsibilities on Friday.
Steve has got the airborne crews in shape - Dave LR is flying out on Friday, Alan Eldred on Sunday, everyone else except Anna and Miranda on Monday, and they arrive next Wednesday. Roger and Chrisna Wilson are driving direct from Montenegro and arrive this coming Saturday.

All I need to do now is finish work, catch up with weeks of emails and post, finish the paperwork and insurance, get Robin Hood ready, and …………………deal with the next challenges! (Bev currently has her feet up!)
Any problems with anyone, please feel free to call or email - otherwise, we'll see all the drivers on Friday, and all the airborne crews in Kosova, as and when you arrive.

Safe journeys
Chas
