A&S Print Services Ltd

A&S Print Services Ltd, in Hutton, Essex, has now generously agreed to provide our Truck Stickers. These stickers give us an identity, but more than that, they contribute to our safety whilst we are in-the-field by making us recognisable as deliverers of international humanitarian aid.  We are exceptionally grateful to them.

News

Hope and Aid Direct have received received both national and local publicity over the years for our work, fundraising activities and achievements. We've been mentioned in the House of Commons, during a debate on the Balkans and we've also campaigned our MPs to try to improve the life of some of the world's most vulnerable people.

The following are some examples of what we've been doing and what's been said about us.

What's been done

MEDICAL EMERGENCY -  LEAD POISONING

The camps of Zitkovac, Cesmi Luk and Kablare in Kosovo, inhabited by some 500 refugee Roma, have deadly soil lead levels. The World Health Organisation has described the lead levels in these camps as constituting a MEDICAL EMERGENCY. Already a number of Roma children have died because of lead poisoning.

The Humanitarian Law Centre - Kosovo and the European Roma Right Centre are calling you to join the petition for the immediate evacuation of the Roma camps in north Mitrovica, Kosovo. Roma children are at risk - they need to be removed from the source of poisoning - NOW.

An e-mail petition has been organised to try and get something done quickly for these people. Please copy the details above and e-mail them to your friends, asking them to add their name to the bottom and when you have a large quantity of names send the email to: jeta.b@hlc-kosovo.org

Your can also write to your MP, urging them to bring situation to the attention of fellow Members in the House of Commons. If you would like more details please email mail@hopeandaiddirect.org.uk and we will pass you on a sample letter and supporting documentary evidence.

Update on this situation: A number of team members of Hope and Aid Direct have written to their MPs. We've recently received a response from Under Secretary of State who has responded on behalf of the Government indicating that our concerns have been recognised and  the matter is being addressed. We are now waiting for further news of the Roma situation from the Humanitarian Law Centre.

Further update - a response has been received from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office - to read the response please follow this link.

What's been said

The best place to read what's been said about Hope and Aid Direct is in the Press Room.

How you can help

No one involved in Hope and Aid Direct takes a salary, or charges for their time and many of our team do not claim back any expenses that they incur. Our volunteers give up their spare time to raise the funds needed to hire, fill and take trucks on the convoys and use up some of their precious annual leave to travel to the Balkans to distribute the aid.

Online donations

What makes it all worthwhile? Just take a look in the picture galleries, at the faces of some of the people who have been helped over the years.

Do you think you have what it takes? If so, please click on "how you can help" to see what you can do.

Rotary International offers this immediate aid requirement by providing their Emergency Boxes. These Emergency Boxes are available for both hot and cold climates with the contents lists specifically tailored by the Red Cross, each box providing vital aid for adults and children. Held in Rotary warehouses, boxes filled with essential provisions are stored ready for instant dispatch whenever required and provide immediate relief for the victims.
